The Mad Co. Brew & Pizza Story

Mad Co. first opened its doors as a taproom and brewery in October 2016, with our first in-house brewed beers served in August 2017. As we grew, we expanded with new projects, including the opening of Laconia Ale Works in Sparta, NC, in 2018. In 2020, we transitioned all brewing production to Laconia Ale Works and transformed our original brew space into the Marshall Pizza Kitchen, which opened in May 2020 and brought fresh pizza to downtown Marshall.

In September 2024, our beautiful river reminded us of its power when catastrophic flooding devastated Downtown Marshall and left eight feet of water inside our building. Reopening was never a question—we knew how important Mad Co. is to our town, and how important this town is to us.

After six months of rebuilding, we reopened the taproom on March 17, 2025, followed by the Pizza Kitchen on April 24, 2025. The support we received during that time was extraordinary. Construction crews, heavy equipment operators, volunteers, neighbors, and friends came together to help restore our business and our community.

Mad Co. Brew & Pizza has always been built on passion, family, hard work, determination, and a deep love of small towns. We came here for the natural beauty, but we stayed because of the people. The flood only strengthened what we already knew: Marshall is a truly special place.

Today, Mad Co. Brew & Pizza remains a small, family-owned brewery and pizza kitchen, proud to serve great beer, great food, and great company in the heart of Marshall. We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received over the years and excited for all that’s ahead.
